We at Gilnahirk Baptist have found it a useful tool in praying for some of those who have been Imprisoned for their Faith and their families by looking at some of their pictures. It puts a face to the name and makes it more real.
These people are suffering because they believe in Jesus Christ.
China: Pastor Yang Hua has been in police custody since December 9 ,2015, when he was detained after he resisted the authorities attempts to confiscate a computer hard drive belonging to the church. On 22 January 2016, the authorities increased the severity of the charge to divulging state secrets’, and Pastor Hua was officially arrested. The Chinese government frequently imposes this charge on pastors who publicly oppose government attempts to restrict religious practice. On December 26, 2016 his trial took place but no verdict has yet been announced. Neither his wife nor any members of the public were allowed to attend.
Please continue to pray for Czech Christian Petr Jasek. It is now more than a year since Hassan Abduraheem, Abdumonem Abdumawia and Petr were arrested. Pastor Kowa Shamaal was detained in May. The case against the men centres on their support for a Dafuri student who required medical treatment. On January 2, 2017, Pastor Shamaal was acquitted and released. The charges against Petr and the other two men remain. Please pray for their acquittal and release.
Please continue to pray for Christian lawyer Zhang Kai: security officials seem determined to put him behind bars. Zhang was only released from prison in March 2016: he was held for eight months for representing Zhejiang churches whose crosses had been removed. Zhang Kai is among over 300 lawyers and activists who have nbeen interogated, detained imprisoned and ‘disappeared’ since July 2015. He recently spent 48 hours in police custody before being released.
In February 2016, Cheng Jie’s sentence was completed, and she was released, Today the family faces an uncertain future. Cheng Jie’s prison record will be seen as a black mark against the family which means that she will find it difficult to find work, while her two sons may not be allowed to enter school. On her release Cheng Jie spoke of the encouragement it was to know that Christians around the world had been praying for her and her family.
