According to Jesus, his church is ‘a city set on a hill’.
And that is what we at Gilnahirk Baptist Church set out to be.
A city on a hill can’t be hidden away. It emits light 24 hours a day, so that people are drawn to it from all around.
Jesus goes on, and said to his disciples, ‘you are the light of the world…so let your light shine, that others may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’
Which is interesting, especially as Jesus describes himself as ‘the light of the world’ too.
Our purpose as a church then is to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to the surrounding world, bringing glory to God. We do this in many different ways, from teaching about Jesus from the bible on Sunday mornings, through to providing lots of events and services that will serve our local community and beyond.
Whatever it may be, we point people to the light – Jesus.
